Each property card gives a full accounting of the assessed value, split between land and building. You can also see the condition grade, year built, and any recent sales.

Revere also maintains a GIS mapping system at gis.revere.org. The map shows parcel boundaries, zoning, flood zones, and aerial imagery. You can click on any parcel to see its basic property data. This tool is useful when you need to find a property by location instead of address, or when you want to see what surrounds a particular lot.

Exemptions Available in Revere

Revere offers a range of property tax exemptions under MGL c. 59, §5. Here are the main categories:

  • Senior exemptions range from $234.50 to $500, depending on the clause and eligibility
  • Veteran exemptions start at $400 and can go up to a full tax waiver for 100% disabled veterans
  • Blind property owners may receive a $500 exemption
  • Surviving spouses may qualify under Clause 17D for $234.50 or more

All exemption applications must be filed with the Assessors Office by April 1. You need to own and occupy the property as your primary residence. Income and asset limits apply for most senior exemptions. Veterans need documentation of their service and disability rating from the VA. The Assessors Office can help you figure out which clause fits your situation best.

At the state level, the Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit provides up to $2,820 for homeowners 65 and older who meet income guidelines. This credit is claimed on your Massachusetts income tax return and works alongside local exemptions. Many Revere seniors qualify for both a local exemption and the state credit.

Tax Payments and Appeals

Revere accepts tax payments through City Hall Systems online. ACH (e-check) payments are free. You can also pay by phone at 508-381-5455 or use the drop box at City Hall. Credit card payments carry a processing fee. Mailed payments go to the Treasurer/Collector at 281 Broadway, Revere, MA 02151. Include the payment stub with your check.

If you believe your property is assessed too high, file Form ABT with the Assessors Office. The deadline falls within 30 days of when the third-quarter bill is mailed. Under MGL c. 59, §59, property owners can seek an abatement when the assessment exceeds fair market value. Strong abatement cases usually include comparable sales from the area and evidence of any condition issues that affect value. If the local board denies your request, you can appeal to the state Appellate Tax Board.

Note: ACH payments through City Hall Systems are free in Revere. This is the cheapest way to pay your property tax bill online.

Suffolk County Registry of Deeds

Revere property deeds are filed at the Suffolk County Registry of Deeds. You can search these records at massrods.com/suffolk. The registry covers deeds, mortgages, liens, and other land documents for all of Suffolk County, including Revere, Boston, Chelsea, and Winthrop. When a property sells in Revere, the new deed is recorded here and the Assessors Office updates its ownership records.

Under Proposition 2½ (MGL c. 59, §21C), Revere's total tax levy can grow by only 2.5% per year plus new growth from construction and improvements. This cap protects taxpayers from large year-over-year increases even when property values rise sharply. Revere has seen significant development in recent years, which adds new growth to the levy but does not raise existing homeowners' taxes beyond the 2.5% cap on the existing base. Online deed searches at the registry are free to view. Certified copies cost a fee.
